Movie of the Week – Freedom Writers

Freedom Writers was adapted to the big screen, which was inspired by Erin Gruwell’s book “Freedom Writers Diary” written together with her students at Woodrow Wilson High School in the 90s. The young teacher Erin Gruwell (Hilsary Swank) starts teaching a group of students who are exposed to problem related to crimes, gangs, racism and adaptation. Other teachers are not happy that the once prestigious school is ruined by unsuccessful and troubled students because of the integration program.

The film shows how a teacher opposes school management on her own, bringing together students of different races and how they apply their educational lives out of the classroom. (IMDb – 7,6)
